Dawn To Dusk

Cooking Outdoors
  • The wake-up bell rouses the entire home from its slumber to a new day of karma. The action begins at once with the ablutions.

  • This is easier said than done because even the most helpless and non-co-operative members is taken through the simple yet difficult task of using the wash room and being ‘dressed up for the day’.

  • The bustle of activity is much like that of a bride’s home on her wedding day. The clanging of metal and the splashing of water compete with the walls of those unwilling to submit to a scrub, yet in the span of an hour everyone including the slow and the stubborn are spruced up and are ready to attend the Morning Prayer.

Popel praying

  • All paths at 7am lead to the Multipurpose Community Hall. Some walk briskly, some slowly, some drag themselves, a few are carried or taken in wheelchairs and special trolleys.

  • In prayerful silence all settle down, leaders are seated strategically to watch over their wards.

  • The service begins and responses are enthusiastic and uninhibited. All listen vividly and respond happily.

  • The praying and singing of His special children surely delight the Heavenly Father. After the prayer everyone quietly heads back to their quarters.

  • Mealtimes are edifying to watch. The trolley laden with breakfast items arrive. Those who can walk stand in queue for prayer and the sister begins to serve food assisted by a few inmates. Those who cannot eat on their own are fed first. It is very much the same when donors bring in food for the distribution to the inmates.

  • After the breakfast everyone gets involved in cleaning of the home and the clothes. Thus, General and personal hygiene has top priority in the home.

  • To wash, to bathe and to dress the mentally challenged is no mean task. At 12 noon the lunch is served to the inmates.

  • Afternoon times bustle with various activities.

  • Capable inmates are offered opportunities to engage in skill development activities.

  • Every day and particularly on feast days the stream of visitors is unceasing.

  • People of longstanding association make it a point to come by.

  • Some provide a meal; others bring clothes; some bring stationery items; some bring provisions; etc.

  • At 6.30 pm the dinner is served and having helped one another the inmates sit around the TV to watch different shows.

  • By 9pm everyone gets into his/her bed and wish one another ‘goodnight’ and enjoy the good night sleep.
